the kind of fear president obama talked about today. trying to make people think, oh, my god, they're coming for my gun. and what happens is a lot of americans buy more of the guns and more ammunition, so it spirals on. why can't you see the plane analogy that you brought up as the perfect example of what you should be doing, which is dealing with the chicken and not all the eggs? the chicken is the gun. the gun situation in america, to many people, seems increasingly ridiculous, where a young, deranged man could very easily access an ar-15 assault weapon and take a magazine with 100 bullets and commit mass murder. the last four shootings in america have involved that specific weapon. and have led to complete carnage. it's that that people want to remove. it's not regular guns, handguns, or pistols. what is your answer for that. >> first of all, guns are prohibited in the airplane. they're also prohibited in the school. what we've got to make sure is somebody who violates the law, that children are still protected. that's why we have federal air marshals on airplanes and that's why

parenting or popular culture are to blame. let's talk a bit more on the politics here of gun control. listen, what president obama proposed is sweeping and it's huge. the conversation now is what can actually get passed? give us a sense of what measures go passed? >> very little can get passed in the next couple of years. there's no doubt it's an emotionally charge issue. the polling numbers show that there does seem to be some movement at the public at large. but in congress there's simply is not. particularly among republicans and house republicans specifically. you talk to these members. teen moderate members in suburban districts even those in the northeast. they hear very little from their constituents in terms of stricter gun laws. i don't think there's any appetite among republicans to bring a bill to the floor in the house. >> so why do this then? you know, you have john boehner speaker of the house saying it's the senate's job and joe scarborough talks about how the nra being on the fringe now and the republicans are up against it in terms of an identity in their party. is this sort

on tuesday, we'll be talking gun control. vice president biden will give the president his gun control recommendati recommendations. last month obama had vowed to prevent future shootings like nowtown. expected recommendations include all kind of things. universal background checks and a possible ban on assault weapons. we'll see if that happens on tuesday. also on tuesday, an expected vote on about $50 billion of superstorm sandy relief money. congress approved a $9.7 billion package, but, certainly, much more needs to be done here. and on sunday, looking all the way ahead to the end of the week. president obama's inauguration on noon at sunday. this is a private swearing in before the big festivities on monday. i will be in washington, d.c., all weekend covering it and covering all the celebrations, as well. it will all be live right here on cnn. >>> and we mentioned newtown and as that one month mark from the shooting at newtown approaches, the community is reflecting on the tragedy. cnn's national correspondent susan candiotti has more. >> good morning, randi. wounds remain fresh h
